Lake Accotink Park
This 2,200-acre park is a popular spot for fishing, boating, and hiking. It has five miles of trails that run through woods, fields, and wetlands: perfect for birdwatching and wildlife viewing. There’s also a playground for kids and picnic tables if you’d like to stop for lunch or just relax on a sunny afternoon.
In addition to outdoor activities, Lake Accotink Park offers several events throughout the year, such as winter sledding and an Easter egg hunt. If you’re looking for something more active, they also have nature programs every weekend in April and May where visitors can learn about local plants and animals while exploring the park on foot or by bike.
Mason Neck State Park
Mason Neck State Park is located just outside of Springfield and is home to over 1,100 acres of beautiful marshland and woods. There are plenty of hiking trails throughout the park, as well as bike paths and even horseback riding trails!
The park also features one mile of saltwater shoreline and a boat ramp for boaters who want to enjoy the waterway. On top of all that, there are also several picnic areas where you can bring your family or friends for some fun in the sun.
Leesylvania State Park
Nestled in Loudoun County’s Piedmont region, Leesylvania State Park is one of Virginia’s most popular parks. The park offers camping, swimming, and hiking on trails that wind through dense forests and open meadows. There are also several picnic areas with tables, grills, and restrooms. The park’s signature feature is Lake Anna, a man-made reservoir created by damming up the South Anna River.
A boat ramp provides access to boaters who wish to explore this scenic body of water. The park also features an 18-hole golf course that’s open year-round; however, tee times may be limited during peak season (April through October).
